SWITCH!
My Blog Journey
The name channel surfer came up in my head as I was watching TV instead of working on my Web Applications homework. I laid down on my side and the name just popped up. I thought of myself channel surfing and it was born! The question that rose was. How am I going to make this work! The elevator pitch was hard but after a lot of advice it really settled in. My favorite part of my pitch is ”Avoid drowning in the sea of information – ride the wave!”. It really sums up what I’m working for. I thought of blogging as this dead form of media where you go in, write something and then come back and see what happened. I was wrong! It’s very live and very dynamic. The most rewarding aspect of blogging has to be when you’re with your friends and a post that you put up stirs up conversation.
I believe that over the course of this semester that my blog has improved dramatically especially the content that I post. I found out that people don’t have the same taste in media as I do so what I did was research better content. As I looked around I found a site called Stumble Upon. It was here that my blog took a turn. I was grabbing media that the Internet already filtered to what my viewers liked. Chad Gusher was a strong influence in my bloggie writing style. He taught me how to say a story in 50 words, which was a blast. Meditation really helped me check my humanity every so often. It reminds me that we are the brain and we control the machine.
One blog that really influence me was ZeFranks. He taught me that it only takes one match to start a fire on the web. If I would pick out one student in our class it would have to be Joaquin’s Clique Cracker. I think even before the challenge was set out I pretty much beat out everyone with my PS3 Fix post, which is still in the top 10 Google search. I had about over 600 LEGITAMIT hits in 48hrs. Teaching is the best form of learning because it becomes imprinted in your mind. Blogapalooza was a great experience but I still wish a bit more people had showed up. I love video so this was a great way to release my creativity and also what my community likes onto a blog.
I truly believe that creative commons is the greatest way to punch our government in the face. It true displaces the power back to the people. The only transactions that are being made are knowledge and publicity. It is a great way to say “hey I have some stuff I want you to see and share, just don’t make money off of it or I’ll sue your ass.”
Social and media connectivity is what we are going to be wrapping our jobs and life’s with. As more and more people look for ways to reach a target group more and more ideas and media will be created. I have switched over from the dark side to Tumblr. It’s just me. Tumblr really lets me tinker around and still keep my site in focus with my community. I’m going to wrap um my blogging experience up with one video that I have named #1 this year.
Thanks!
